Heading to Playas de Tijuana and looking forward to taking advantage of Tijuana's coffee culture? Here are the top cafes that Playas has to offer!
#10 Saturno Cafe
Located next to Playami, this is a great spot to chill before the beer drinking starts. Their outdoor seating is intimate and has strong plant lady vibes. They have an all day brunch menu and a nice selection of sweet treats. Try one of their frappes on a hot day!
Location: Paseo Ensenada at Azucena
#9 - Cru Coffee
Cru's Playas location has a really knockout terrace. Even tho it's located in a mini shopping plaza on a main road, it's enclosed and designed so that you're completely sheltered from the surrounding chaos (see photo!). However, it's busy location means you've got ample parking at your disposal. Their Americana is well loved, and their Cappuccino is top notch. Coffee drinks come with the cutest tiniest cookie as well. Location: Paseo Ensenada
#8 - Das Cortez
The menu at Das Cortez is highly specialized, with lots of different natural flavorings and quite an impressive juice menu. Their pastries are delivered daily by Tijuana's best French Bakery, Atelier Sucre, and they have a really nice cold sandwich selection in the mornings, made on artisan bread. Their playas location is all windows, so it's a bright and airy spot to enjoy your drink. They market themselves as an espresso bar, so try one of their more creative espresso drinks, like the Cappuleto Romantico, which somehow has tobacco leaf as an ingredient. They're a little bit off the beaten path, so you won't see any tourists here. Location: Estrella del Mar at Av Las Conchas
#7 - Perimetro Coffee Shop
Located on the perimeter of Parque Azteca Sur (hence the name), Perimetro makes one of the best Iced Mochas in town, it's spiced with cinnamon. Great for sit in or to go, Perimetro is the place to stop for a cold drink before a long drive back to the border or Valle de Guadelupe.
#6 - Curadera
The vibe at Curadera really delivers, and their coffee is quite good as well. The vibe is so strong, that even the vintage bianchi bikes the staff ride to work match the aesthetic. The only problem is that the limited seating goes fast. So if you see seats available in their lovely little parklette, grab them and order a drink and a pastry! You can even pick up a house plant if you find one that strikes your fancy, because they're a plant store as well! Try the Cucurma Latte. Location: Parque Mexico Sur
#5 - Qubiko Cafe
With two locations situated within a block of one another, there should be no reason why you couldn't snag a spot on the terrace! Their location on Av. del Farallon has three levels, while their cafe closer to the malecon on Av Del Pacifico is a bit smaller at two levels. Try the Mocha Menta and the Croissant with Jamon y Queso.
#4 - Tonalli Restaurant and Cafe
Located just a few blocks from the malecon, the terrace at Tonalli is one of the most tranquil spots in Playas. A cool breeze, an ocean view and a strawberry sage lemonade; what more could you want for an afternoon? They have a full breakfast, lunch and dinner menu, but they close early at around 9pm. In addition to the lemonade, try their Coffee Pineapple Tonic and the Mediterranean Salad. Location: Granizo and Av Del Pacifico
#3 - Illustre Playas
With limited seating, Illustre is the place to go for coffee on to go. They roast in house and distribute their beans to other cafes around Tijuana. They've even won some awards in MX and the US! You'll see them roasting in the room next to their storefront, so take a moment to bask in the aroma while you place your oder. Drinks of note include the Canelatte and their tonic drinks, try the new Grapefruit Tonic with Lavender!
Location: P. Playas de Tijuana and Av del Agua
#2 - Nocturno
Nocturno balances a bright and airy atmosphere with some of the best coffee in Playas. The Latte Naranja is one of their signature drinks, with orange peel infused into the milk, it's a lovely aromatic experience. Their menu covers breakfast, lunch and dinner, with lots of sandwiches, burgers, omelets and french toast. They're open late, closing at 10pm, and get quite lively in the evenings with groups of friends playing some of the card and board games they keep around for patrons. Plus, they JUST started roasting in house! If you don't like orange flavored things, their Chai Sucio is fantastic on the rocks!
Location: Paseo Ensenada at Cantil
#1 - B Haus Coffee Shop
B Haus wins for having the best vibe and really fantastic coffee. With beautiful places to sit on the patio among the hanging plants and succulents or cozy spots to curl up on comfy couches, both upstairs and downstairs, it is the perfect spot for a leisurely afternoon with a coffee and friend. While they win on vibe, their coffee is also excellent. The Mocha Oaxaca is especially delicious, using artesian chocolate sourced from Mexico's leading cacao producing region. The breakfast / lunch menu is quite good as well, the hash-brown waffles are worth a try. Location: Del Maseta at Av Del Agua
